There are many reasons why eating a slice of cake is so enjoyable. It is not only incredibly tasty but can provide comfort, social opportunity and is a great way to celebrate a special occasion which is why home baked cake is a popular treat in all our homes.
Whilst our menu options provide our residents with a healthy and balanced diet with lots of variety and fresh produce; did you know that eating a delicious slice of cake actually has some health benefits too?
The key ingredients of eggs and milk are a great source of protein and calcium which can help with building muscle.
Flour and sugar are excellent sources of carbohydrates which fuels your body and mind with energy.
Fruit is also a great source of fibre. By incorporating fruit into baking you can help with improving digestion. Carrot cake in particular is a healthier option as it can provide an even greater source of fibre.
With this in mind, Four Seasons Health Care Group decided to hold it’s first Bake Off competition with chef’s from each home across the company being invited to participate. The only entry requirement was that the cake recipe had to originate from the residents in the home. It may be a favourite childhood cake, created from much love ingredients or simply a cake that was a popular choice – the chef then had to recreate the cake and add their own twist.
The Bake Off final took place on October 14th where five Chefs had three hours to recreate their winning entry. See below to see the finalists and which Chef was crowned the Four Seasons Health Care Group Baker of the year 2021.
