An Edinburgh Care Home’s staffing service has been rated as excellent by the Care Inspectorate following an inspection. Colinton Care Home was also rated as very good against the core inspection themes of supporting people’s wellbeing and its leadership, and was rated as good for its setting and planning of care and support.
Carers are the heart and soul of every care home and deserve to be made to feel extra-special this week. Find a way to say a huge thank you to your carers this week by holding a party or baking them all some cupcakes. You could also invite unpaid carers from the neighbourhood, such as those who care for relatives at home, to join you for a tea party?
Walking is a fantastic way to improve or maintain your health. Thirty minutes every day can increase cardiovascular fitness, strengthen bones, reduce excess body fat, and boost muscle power and endurance. It can also reduce your risk of developing conditions such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, osteoporosis and some cancers. Unlike some other forms of exercise, walking is free and doesn’t require any special equipment or training.
The start of the world’s most famous flower show is bound to prompt interest in flower arranging or gardening with your residents – alternatively watch the TV programme and then get creative and paint! Organising a local florist to come in to the home to do classes or a talk is often popular and holding your very own brighterkind flower show throughout your home is even a possibility!
This month sees a campaign to promote the benefits of walking and to get everyone walking, no matter what their level of fitness. Walking is simple, free and one of the easiest ways to be more active and healthy with the benefits to us as we get older attracting much media interest in recent times. Why not join a local walk, link up with local walking groups or even host your own to raise funds for a local charity – not forgetting to include your wheelchair users in these as well!
