Strikes, spares and smiles

Residents of Emberbrook Care Home took part in an exciting tournament.

Recently our residents have been taking part in our weekly bowling club. It’s been a great activity as our residents enjoy a bit of friendly competition and it’s always a good laugh. During this week’s game, our resident Charmian made some fantastic bowls resulting in her winning the game.

Residents get competitive trying different sports!

Residents at Westbury Court Care Home all got stuck in to their very own week of Sports Relief celebrations.

Our amazing Magic Moments Club team arranged a full week of fun sporting activities for everyone to get involved with. Our residents can be very competitive so we had some very tense games of armchair tennis and football! It was brilliant to see everyone trying new sports and having so much fun. Our residents loved seeing who could score the most baskets in basketball, some residents had prior experience so could share some top tips which was brilliant. A house favourite of ours is definitely boules, so everyone wanted to get involved with that game! It was a really fun week celebrating sports relief and having a great time trying lots of different sports.

Care home residents and team members take part in ‘Just Bowl’ inter-home championship

brighterkind  residents and care teams from homes across the North have taken part in a ‘Just Bowl’ Inter-Home Championship event, held last week at The Granby in Harrogate. The event, which is part of an initiative to increase participation in bowls in the community, adapts the traditional game of bowls to be played on carpet in a care home setting.

brighterkind care homes enjoy fundraising FUN for Red Nose Day

All across the UK, brighterkind care homes have been putting the FUN into fundraising for Comic Relief’s Red Nose Day 2019.

Our residents and team members donned their red noses and have been busy baking cakes, dressing up and taking part in Magic Moments Club Sports activities to support this wonderful charity.

World Cup Fever reaches Westbury Court Care Home

World Cup Fever took hold of Westbury Court Care Home in Wiltshire on 20th June. This is an initiative being run by brighterkind to complement the World Cup football tournament which returns from the 14th June for a whole month! With 32 teams from all around the world, we thought it would be the perfect opportunity to tie this event in nicely with our new sporting initiative 'Slipper Soccer' whilst having some fun - by running a simple tournament between the homes.

brighterkind care home residents kick off national soccer competition inspired by world cup

A team of elderly residents within each brighterkind care home have kicked off in a national inter-homes soccer competition inspired by the FIFA world cup.

With the average age of team members being in the 80’s, they might be expected to sit back and watch TV highlights of cup matches, but instead they are taking part in a penalty shoot-out challenge in slipper soccer, which is football adapted for the needs of older people.
