palliative care at Flowerdown

Having been presented with ‘The Mayor of Winchester’s Community Award’, in recognition of service to the community, there is no limit to the fantastic level of care here at Flowerdown, as we specialise in nursing and palliative care.

We work closely with the hospital palliative care unit and offer them with three ‘fast track/palliative care beds’, the unit then continues to support those admitted residents. We may also receive referrals from Southampton University Hospital. The rooms we commit to palliative care overlook one of our beautiful gardens, providing a peaceful environment for both residents and families, who are welcome 24/7 and can remain with their loved one if they so choose. Our home has also completed a yearlong ‘Quality Improvement Project’ in collaboration with Hampshire Hospital Foundation Trust. The project, which aimed to improve end of life care, saw a sharp increase in the confidence in our care team, helping them to recognise and administer key parts of palliative care.

Caring for complex needs

This is for residents with more complex healthcare needs, and who require the supervision of fully qualified nurses. This might involve frequent medication regimes, wound care, constant assessment, monitoring and care planning.

Round-the-clock specialised service

Our registered nurses are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and specialise in providing therapeutic care for our residents. They are supported by our highly skilled carers, who assist with all aspects of personal care and support.
