Buchanan Lodge Care Home in Glasgow have supported the 2018 First World War Centenary Commemorations by presenting a handmade poppy wreath to Erskine.
Erskine is a facility in Erskine, Scotland, that provides long-term medical care for veterans of the British Armed Forces. The charity was established in 1916 to treat the thousands of military personnel who lost their limbs in the First World War and every subsequent war. Erskine continues to provide support to veterans in Scotland today, with care homes and a Veterans Village.
Over the last few years Senior Carer Irene Monaghan and Carer Frances McFayden have knitted poppies and Magic Moments Club Coordinator Allison Blair has sold these to raise funds for Poppyscotland. This year for the Centenary Commemorations we decided to make the poppies into a wreath and donate it to Erskine so it could be used for years to come. Irene and Frances knitted the poppies and Allison stitched on the tartan and attached the poppies on the willow wreath.
On 1st November we visited Erskine and our resident Margaret Ingram presented the wreath to Activities Coordinator Craig Berry. Erskine were absolutely delighted to receive the poppy wreath and it will be included in their Remembrance Day Service on the 11th of November.
Allison Blair said “The residents and team here at Buchanan Lodge are all very proud of our ongoing poppy appeal project. It was an amazing day visiting Erskine and it was an honour to donate something that meant so much to them.”
