Celebrating International Nurses Day

Celebrating Nurses

International Nurses Day is celebrated throughout the world on 12th May, the anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth. It is held annually to mark the significant contributions that nurses make to society.

At brighterkind we are thankful to all of our nurses that help us deliver high quality care and help our residents enjoy every single day.

To help mark International Nurses Day, we want to shine the spotlight on some of the incredible work that just a few of our wonderful nurses do on a daily basis and why they love working in a brighterkind home:

Carol, Registered Nurse. Clarence Court Care Home

Nurses Day bk

What attracted you to nursing in a care home?
I feel it’s more autonomous in a care home setting and you’re able to use your initiative and decision making skills as you’re not going to have a doctor there all the time.
I’m also able to use a wide variety of my clinical skills as you have to do a bit of everything rather than being trained finely in a certain area.

Why do you enjoy working at Clarence Court Care Home?
It’s a very friendly environment to work in and everyone is really supportive. We have a close-knit team and we all pull together to ensure we give great care to our residents. I also enjoy building close relationships with our residents and their families.

Claudia, The Branksome

What do you like about The Branksome Care Home?
We have great relationships with our residents; we’re like an extended family!
I also have a great team and support is always available. It’s fantastic working alongside highly experienced nurses.

What do you enjoy most about your role?
Building strong relationships with our residents. We get to know our residents and their families really well.
“I think brighterkind are excellent at looking after their residents and always making improvements in resident care”.

Gracelyn, Registered Nurse. Kingston Care Home

Nurses Day 2021

What do you like about Kingston Care Home?
Our home has a great sense of community as our team members and residents treat each other like family. There’s a sense of belongingness and community in our home rather than just a workplace for our team members.

What do you enjoy most about your job?
The most rewarding aspect of being a nurse at Kingston is building the relationships with our residents and knowing that you're making a difference to their life.
Residents are very happy to share their life experiences, they love chatting and often they give you life lessons along the way.

Marian, Registered Nurse. Uplands Care Home

Nurses Day 2021

Since Marian was a child, she knew she wanted to be a nurse!
“Nursing is not just an ordinary job, this is something that you need to do from the heart. You’re making a difference to a resident’s life, you make them smile and you help to improve their quality of life. This is the greatest reward you can get as a nurse”.

Why do you enjoy your role?
It’s extremely rewarding and I go home every day knowing I’ve done my job and made a difference to our residents’ lives.
Also, as a nurse in a care home setting, it’s fantastic being able to build relationships with our residents. I enjoy creating an environment that will make our residents enjoy their home.

If you could describe your career in a couple of word, what would you say?
Enjoyable and rewarding!

To all our wonderful nurses, thank you for everything you do, not just during these challenging times, but always.
