Getting crafty for Naturewatch!

Residents at Meyrick Rise Care Home get stuck into gardening and crafts fro Naturewatch

“The residents have been having so much fun all week!"

Residents at Meyrick Rise Care Home have recently enjoyed getting stuck into arts and crafts using recycled materials as part of our Naturewatch activities.

Throughout May, brighterkind homes across the UK have been getting close to nature and the great outdoors with their own ‘Naturewatch’ themed events. From animal visits, to getting stuck in with the garden, to welcoming insects to their home-made bug hotels, residents have enjoyed learning about the creatures and nature surrounding us.

For our nature event, residents have been showcasing their green-fingered growing talents by creating potato heads made with grass seeds and old recycled stockings. The recent warm weather has given our potato heads a whole mop of green hair!

We also brought the garden into the main lounge, residents making foxy finger puppets (made from used rolls and recycled bottle tops). We couldn’t resist making some furry friends, including flying bumblebees and incey wincey spiders made from wool. Our home is now adorned with beautiful colourful decorations and displays.

We also turned our garden into a wildlife haven and made ladybird stones, and decorated bird nesting boxes and bug hotels to attract local wildlife!

Leanne Jeneson, Magic Moments Club Assistant said, “The residents have been having so much fun all week; they really enjoyed making the grass potato heads, we keep checking for who’s winning the race for longest hair!.”

At Meyrick Rise we believe in living life to the full. That’s why we’re passionate about creating vibrant, stimulating activities that will help our residents to love every day. We call them ‘Magic Moments’.

Every brighterkind home now has a Magic Moments Club which provides a vast range of activities and fun things to do that are open to all of our residents. The idea behind Magic Moments is that just because someone moves into a care home doesn't mean that the things they love doing should suddenly stop – quite the contrary, we believe our residents should have the opportunity to love every day, by doing the things that they have always loved as well as trying new things along the way.

Meyrick Rise Care Home is located in Bournemouth, Dorset and provides nursing carepalliative careresidential care and respite care.
