"We really enjoyed being in the garden socialising with family, friends and guests, chatting together and enjoying a party!"
Highfield Care Home in Ware recently donated a fabulous £250 to Age UK Herts following our Summer BBQ community fundraiser event.
We have recently been working alongside Age UK Herts division and in July they held a campaign for National Picnic Month to help raise money for all the hard work they do. We decided to help support their efforts by holding a BBQ picnic fundraiser in our newly refurbished garden.
Although the event took place on the hottest day of the year, our residents and guests enjoyed the shelter of our beautiful trees and gazebos and sipped juices and ice cold water to keep cool.
We enjoyed BBQ burgers, hotdogs, chicken and salad, complimented by a beautiful fresh fruit salad all prepared and served by our wonderful Catering team!
Gareth John provided the musical entertainment throughout the day in the sunshine, bringing his unique style to entertain us with some great swing, reggae and golden oldies together with trumpet playing!
We had a fabulous tombola and stalls selling such diverse items as Orchids to pure Hertfordshire Honey to handbags and perfume bottles. The local NCS also came along to sell cakes for Cancer Research.
Some of our guests included members of HCPA (Herts Care Providers Association) Nicole Johnson and Karen Green who were very complimentary about the work we do at Highfield and how we try to make a difference to every day.
The day raised a fantastic £250 and were very pleased with this amount! We have since presented the cheque to Ellie Males, representative of Age Uk Herts. It was a wonderful celebration of all our hard work put into the event.
Lyn Wilkie, Magic Moments Club Co-ordinator said, "Although it was a very hot day, we really enjoyed being in the garden socialising with family, friends and guests, chatting together and enjoying a party!"
Resident Vi said, "I loved the music!"
At Highfield we believe in living life to the full. That’s why we’re passionate about creating vibrant, stimulating activities that will help our residents to love every day. We call them ‘Magic Moments’.
Every brighterkind home now has a Magic Moments Club which provides a vast range of activities and fun things to do that are open to all of our residents. The idea behind Magic Moments is that just because someone moves into a care home doesn't mean that the things they love doing should suddenly stop – quite the contrary, we believe our residents should have the opportunity to love every day, by doing the things that they have always loved as well as trying new things along the way.
