Residents and team members of The Lawns Care Home had a fantastic day celebrating Diwali.
As we are a multi-cultured home, we thought it would be a great idea to celebrate Diwali as this is a tradition in many of our team members’ culture. We also thought this was a lovely opportunity for our residents to learn about traditions from other countries.
For this occasion, many of us dressed in traditional Indian clothing and our resident, Norah was thrilled to wear a sari.
Resident, Ronnie said: “The outfits were beautiful and they looked lovely.”
Team member, Gez said: “I loved it, I am seriously considering dressing like that daily!”
Now that we looked the part, it was time to transform our home. Our residents used their creative skills to make beautiful Diwali decorations, which included tinsel, lanterns and coloured mandala patterns.
Our residents also enjoyed a delicious curry with a fantastic selection of dishes, including naan bread, onion bhajis and samosas. To finish the feast our residents enjoyed Indian sweets and a refreshing glass of mango juice.
In the afternoon we all enjoyed a Bangra Oomph! session followed by two of our team members performing a traditional Indian dance.
Everyone had a fantastic time and we are keen to do this again next year!
