Residents at Springfield House Care Home recently spent the day celebrating Diwali which is the Hindu festival of lights.
Team members dressed up in traditional Indian dress and put on a wonderful performance of traditional dancing for the residents. The Magic Moments Club team and Host Bal Dheensa taught us all about the past and modern day Diwali traditions.
Our lovely head chef, Harvey, taught our residents to play Dhandia which are rhythmic sticks used in Indian dancing, and treated us to some delicious samosas so everyone could sample some Indian cuisine. They were brilliant. Everyone had a fantastic afternoon and was great to experience and learn about a different culture.
Resident, Jean, said “I loved all the dancing and the detail on the costumes was beautiful, really sparkly!”
Team member, Christy, said “It’s lovely to see everyone celebrating different cultures within the home, the dancing was superb and I even tried out the Dhandia myself! Think I have discovered a hidden talent!”
At Springfield House we believe in living life to the full. That’s why we’re passionate about creating vibrant, stimulating activities that will help our residents to love every day. We call them ‘Magic Moments’.
Every brighterkind home now has a Magic Moments Club which provides a vast range of activities and fun things to do that are open to all of our residents.
The idea behind Magic Moments is that just because someone moves into a care home doesn't mean that the things they love doing should suddenly stop – quite the contrary, we believe our residents should have the opportunity to love every day, by doing the things that they have always loved as well as trying new things along the way.
