Connecting with our community for The Big Lunch

Ross Court Care Home makes links with local community for The Big Lunch

“It was lovely to meet old friends and make new friends over a superb lunch.”

Ross Court Care Home recently held their own community get-together as they took part in ‘The Big Lunch’.

The Big Lunch is an Eden Project Communities initiative which aims to build stronger communities by holding an annual get-together with their neighbours. Every year, people take to the streets to eat, laugh, sing, dance and get closer to their closer community.

The Magic Moments Club team invited family members, friends from the community who regularly visit our home and also surrounding neighbours who live on the housing estate where Ross Court is situated.

We were unlucky with the weather so had to hold our lunch indoors but rain never stopped us all from having a great time!

A delicious lunch was served and enjoyed by all, followed by strawberries and cream! The local community really came together to help with our event as we received the strawberries from our local fruit farm and the cream and fruit punch came from our nearby supermarket who were happy to contribute.

After lunch we had an entertaining afternoon of music from a local guitarist, Don Leather who performed in between our two Belly Dancing Displays from the girls of Odalisque Belly Dance Troupe. The residents and friends enjoyed the afternoon and resident Peter, team member Sally and Magic Moments Club Co-ordinator Clare joined in with a couple of dances with the Belly Dance Troupe!

A raffle took place with over £100 raised for this good cause, but the best part was the friendships formed between our home, our local housing estate community and the wider town as a whole.

We’re already looking forward to doing it all again next year!

Janet Auty, Home Manager said, “It was lovely to meet old friends and make new friends over a superb lunch.”

Resident Peter said, “I Loved the whole afternoon, especially getting to perform with the Belly Dancers.”

The Belly Dancers said, “We loved performing for the residents and all their friends, it was a wonderful day.”

At Ross Court Care Home, we believe in living life to the full. That’s why we’re passionate about creating vibrant, stimulating activities that will help our residents to love every day. We call them ‘Magic Moments’.

Every brighterkind care home now has a Magic Moments Club which provides a vast range of activities and fun things to do that are open to all of our residents. The idea behind Magic Moments is that just because someone moves into a care home doesn't mean that the things they love doing should suddenly stop – quite the contrary, we believe our residents should have the opportunity to love every day, by doing the things that they have always loved as well as trying new things along the way.

Ross Court Care Home is located in Ross-on-Wye, Herefordshire, and provides residential care and respite care.
