The Lawns Care Home recently held their own Crafts Cafe as part of National Care Home Open Day, for residents, their friends and families as well as members of the local community.
We wanted to bring together residents and families in line with National Care Home Open Day. The event encourages homes to open their doors to celebrate a different theme each year, with a few key values at its heart: friendship, making connections and celebrating older and vulnerable people. This year’s theme is celebrating the role of Arts in Care, which aims to demonstrate how care homes are creative communities.
Everybody had a great day, residents and guests were painting with watercolours, and creating with air drying white clay.
Wow - We did not realise how creative some of our resident were! We had so many different clay models made, and the enjoyment they had doing this was amazing.
Everybody liked the idea of coffee and cakes whilst they created. This was such a success that we have decided to have an Art and Craft Café here at least once a month! We will vary some of the crafts that will be available, but will include the clay model making as this was a huge success with many people who tried it.
Gez, Magic Moments Club Coordinator said, "What a great time we all had, I enjoyed myself as much as the residents! The residents and guests made some lovely models with the clay, and the water colour paintings were very good."
Resident Alastair said, "I enjoyed the crafts, it was very well attended for a first time opening, looking forward to coming to the next crafts café!"
