“It was a spectacular day out giving many of our residents the chance to recapture precious memories of Llandudno”
Residents at Lawton Manor Care Home had a day out to Llandudno in North Wales recently as part of our home’s Wishing Well programme.
Twelve residents had posted their wish to visit the seaside resort in our wishing well and although the forecast was for rain all day we all decided to go ahead and the team bought 30 waterproof ponchos for our group outing.
Llandudno is always a firm favourite for a day out with our residents, where they can enjoy the fresh sea air, and return to a place where many used to spend their holidays. Luck was on our side because as soon as our coach pulled up the rain stopped and we were raring to go.
We enjoyed a walk along the pier, a spot of shopping and games in the amusements arcade before stopping for a traditional fish and chip lunch followed by ice creams.
One of the highlights of our trip is what we fondly call ‘The Seagull Show’, where team members jump into action to protect the residents’ food from the gulls along the pier. Much to the amusement of everybody a cheeky gull pinched one of our bright yellow ponchos which we think he mistook for a sandwich!
The outing was a particularly special occasion for two of our residents Patrick and Peggy, who had arranged a reunion with friends who still live in the area.

Home Manager Nicke said: “All our residents returned with a happy grin on their faces. We encourage as many residents as possible to take part in our activities and outings programme as it helps them to relive happy memories and make lots of new ones.”
brighterkind runs their Wishing Well programme in all of its 70 care homes. Residents are encouraged to make a wish to experience something new or revisit an activity or place they’ve enjoyed in the past and our Magic Moments Club Team arrange for it to happen. Our Magic Moments Clubs provide a vast range of vibrant, stimulating activities that help our residents to love every day. Just because someone moves into a care home doesn't mean that the things they love doing should suddenly stop – quite the contrary, we believe our residents should have the opportunity to do the things that they have always loved as well as trying new things along the way.
