Enjoying the fruits of our harvest

The Berkshire Care Home, Wokingham-Resident Donald is so proud of this year's bumper crop of fruit and vegetables

“I am so happy today. I harvested lots of pumpkins, beetroot and pears. After only three months we got such good results from our garden.”

Residents at The Berkshire Care Home have been celebrating the Harvest Festival with home grown goodies from our well-stocked garden.

We are all very proud of this year’s crop and residents Graham and Donald helped to fill our baskets with a huge assortment of fruit and vegetables including some of our amazing pumpkins, so our chefs could prepare a special harvest lunch for everyone while we decorated the tables in the dining room.

The menu was filled with seasonal delights; pumpkin soup to start, beef stew with freshly picked vegetables and homemade bread for main course and for dessert a lovely apple and blackberry pie with cream.

We had invited family and friends to join us and after enjoying our delicious lunch together we headed outside to sit in the autumn sunshine and listen to a local band playing live music in the garden.

Resident Donald said “I am so happy today. I harvested lots of pumpkins, beetroot and pears. After only three months we got such good results from our garden.”

Guest Kate said “Lunch was delicious and it was so nice for my father and I to enjoy it together. The tables looked beautiful and it was a lovely warm atmosphere.”

Magic Moments Club Coordinator Bella said “Our Harvest Festival was a great celebration made even more special by our wonderful crop of home grown produce.  I would like to thank everyone who helped us with our vegetable garden this year and of course our chefs for a slap-up lunch. Thanks also to family and friends who donated to our harvest food bank which will be donated to a local charity.”

At The Berkshire we believe in living life to the full. That’s why we’re passionate about creating vibrant, stimulating activities that will help our residents to love every day. We call them ‘Magic Moments’.

Every brighterkind home now has a Magic Moments Club which provides a vast range of activities and fun things to do that are open to all of our residents. The idea behind Magic Moments is that just because someone moves into a care home doesn't mean that the things they love doing should suddenly stop – quite the contrary, we believe our residents should have the opportunity to love every day, by doing the things that they have always loved as well as trying new things along the way.

The Berkshire Care Home is located in Wokingham, Berkshire and provides residential carenursing carepalliative care and respite care.
