"Congratulations everyone on a wonderful performance, we thoroughly enjoyed every minute, you are all amazing!”
The terrifically talented residents of Lawton Manor Care Home have treated family, friends and members of the local community to a performance of ‘The Wizard of Oz’ at our annual show stopping spectacular!
The whole home has been busy preparing for the musical production for the past month with rehearsals, costume fittings and prop-making sessions. Even residents who didn’t perform in the show itself played a huge role designing scenery and making wonderful creations in our arts and crafts activities.
For this year’s show we were very fortunate to be joined by pianist Sue Chadwick who accompanied our amazing cast including Dorothy, Tin Man, Scarecrow, Cowardly Lion, Wizard, Wicked Witch and Glinda as they hit all the right notes with their spellbinding singing and delightful dancing.
The event coincided with our ‘Carry on Learning’ initiative, where residents have the opportunity to learn new skills, and they certainly proved to be enthusiastic ‘students’ as their new-found techniques in design, artwork and performing for an audience brought them a standing ovation.
Barbra Jones, a member of the local community said: “My husband and I come to watch the show every year and I am always so impressed by the residents. Congratulations everyone on a wonderful performance, we thoroughly enjoyed every minute, you are all amazing!”
Magic Moments Coordinator Dawn said: “We have been producing shows at Lawton Manor since 2006, and every year I am always amazed by the dedication shown by the residents and their time and commitment on the project. The smiles on their faces throughout the show makes it all worthwhile.”
Liz, Magic Moments Club Assistant added “A wonderful, spellbinding performance. It was lovely to see so many members of the local community in the audience supporting our fantastic residents.”
At Lawton Manor we believe in living life to the full. That’s why we’re passionate about creating vibrant, stimulating activities that will help our residents to love every day. We call them ‘Magic Moments’.
Every brighterkind home now has a Magic Moments Club which provides a vast range of activities and fun things to do that are open to all of our residents.
The idea behind Magic Moments is that just because someone moves into a care home doesn't mean that the things they love doing should suddenly stop – quite the contrary, we believe our residents should have the opportunity to love every day, by doing the things that they have always loved as well as trying new things along the way.
