On 9th October, Hungerford Care Home in Berkshire relived the days of steam railway on their day out to STEAM - Museum of the Great Western Railway in Swindon.
Everybody had a wonderful day seeing all of the iconic machinery, bringing back memories from the past. They saw historic engines, cars, and various trains including the Cheltenham Flyer – the ‘world’s fastest train’! When they got back to the home after the day, they shared stories with other residents about this brilliant trip out.
The residents had expressed their interest to visit the museum for a day out and decided it was their trip of choice, and then the Magic Moments Co-ordinators made it happen with help from Volunteer Ruth driving the minibus!
Magic Moments Club Co-ordinator, Kanika Sharma said, “It was fantastic to see our residents enjoy and relive memories from the past, when they used to travel on steam trains. They enjoyed it so much that I think another visit in the future is definitely on the cards!”
At Hungerford Care Home we believe in living life to the full. That’s why we’re passionate about creating vibrant, stimulating activities that will help our residents to love every day. We call them ‘Magic Moments’.
Every brighterkind home now has a Magic Moments Club which provides a vast range of activities and fun things to do that are open to all of our residents. The idea behind Magic Moments is that just because someone moves into a care home doesn't mean that the things they love doing should suddenly stop – quite the contrary, we believe our residents should have the opportunity to love every day, by doing the things that they have always loved as well as trying new things along the way.
