The Lawns Care Home celebrated Harvest Festival with an exciting Oomph! Session.
Here at The Lawns we had a fantastic celebration for Harvest Festival with lots of traditional activities. We kicked off the festival celebrations by singing lots of hymns including ‘We plough the fields’ and ‘All things bright and beautiful.’ What made it even more special was that our resident Freda played the keyboard for all of her friends to sing along with her.
Freda quoted Shakespeare commenting: “If music be the food of love, play on!”
We also organised a variety of activities for residents, including making corn dollies and tasting various types of bread including wheatsheaf bread.
Resident, Ronnie said: “I loved the corn dollies, they were so detailed!”
Our team members Angela and Jasvinder ran an exciting Oomph! Session, which involved residents learning dance moves to traditional bhangra music. Oomph! sessions are a series of exercises set to music that are designed to enhance the mental, physical and emotional wellbeing of older people. Oomph stands for 'Our Organisation Makes People Happy' and it certainly went down a treat with our residents.
After a day of fun activities our residents enjoyed a delicious harvest feast including traditional dishes such as fidget pie, honey baked gammon and pear tarts.
Senior Care Assistant, Angela said: “It was a fantastic day, full of laughter and fun. We’re so please our residents enjoyed the traditional activities and it was lovely introducing them to a new style of dance.”
