“It was fantastic seeing our residents having such fun experiencing the great outdoors and being back on their bicycles again”
Buchanan Lodge Care Home residents have had the most wonderful day cycling around Callendar Park on trishaws.
The trishaws are pedalled by volunteers for the ‘Cycling Without Age’ project which was founded in Copenhagen to help the elderly get back on bicycles whatever their mobility and feel the wind in their hair again.
Callendar Park in Falkirk dates from the 14th century and contains a section of the Antonine Wall World Heritage Site and Callendar House. We boarded our trishaws and the lovely volunteers took us through the beautiful gardens and woodlands so we could admire the scenery close up from the comfort of our seats.
Resident Isobel said “Today was great fun and it was brilliant being cycled around the park and seeing Callendar House.”
Magic Moments Coordinator Holly said “It was fantastic seeing our residents having such fun experiencing the great outdoors and being back on their bicycles again. We all think the Cycling Without Age project is a brilliant idea and our thanks go to the wonderful volunteers.”
At Buchanan Lodge we believe in living life to the full. That’s why we’re passionate about creating vibrant, stimulating activities that will help our residents to love every day. We call them ‘Magic Moments’.
Every brighterkind home now has a Magic Moments Club which provides a vast range of activities and fun things to do that are open to all of our residents. The idea behind Magic Moments is that just because someone moves into a care home doesn't mean that the things they love doing should suddenly stop – quite the contrary, we believe our residents should have the opportunity to love every day, by doing the things that they have always loved as well as trying new things along the way.
