On 19th October, Flowerdown Care Home in Winchester enjoyed a fun afternoon at the local Marwell Zoo in Owlesbury.
Our residents Rodney and Geoffrey both come from farming backgrounds and also share a lifelong passion for animals with resident George. Although not originally from the area, all three have lived around Winchester for a long time but have never had the chance to visit Marwell Zoom which is home to over 1,200 animals of 135 species!
We had a fantastic afternoon out in the autumnal landscape with the chance to see all the animals and get close to nature. We're going to the zoo, zoo, zoo...
Magic Moments Club Co-ordinator Katie Ford said, “George, Rodney and Geoffrey have all had a long history with animals.Visiting Marwell Zoo was something they had wanted to do for a long time but unfortunately never had chance to while living at home, so we were extremely happy to make this happen for them, it’s something they’re going to remember for a very long time!”
We are piloting the Oomph! Out and About service, so that homes can arrange exciting excursions for residents to go further afield. This is part of our Fresh Air strategy, which aims to get everybody outside and out into the community as much as possible, as this can really lift the spirits!
At Flowerdown Care Home we believe in living life to the full. That’s why we’re passionate about creating vibrant, stimulating activities that will help our residents to love every day. We call them ‘Magic Moments’.
Every brighterkind home now has a Magic Moments Club which provides a vast range of activities and fun things to do that are open to all of our residents. The idea behind Magic Moments is that just because someone moves into a care home doesn't mean that the things they love doing should suddenly stop – quite the contrary, we believe our residents should have the opportunity to love every day, by doing the things that they have always loved as well as trying new things along the way.
