Residents visit rare breed farm at Ashbourne Court Care Home

On 30th March, Ashbourne Court Care Home granted a Wishing Well wish for resident Irmgard when they took her to Cholderton Rare Breeds Farm. Irmgard is an avid animal lover and for her wish had requested to see animals “up close”, following which activity coordinator Caroline Aktas contacted Cholderton Rare Breeds Farm in Salisbury.

Along with fellow resident Margaret, Caroline had arranged for Irmgard’s family to surprise her at the farm so that they could enjoy the day as a family. Together they enjoyed looking at the wide variety of rare breeds that the farm had to offer including pot-bellied pigs, chickens, ducks, goats and peacocks.

The manager of the rare breeds farm, Sue arranged for Irmgard to spend time with the stable girl, and have some “hands on” experience, as Irmgard is unable to ride these days.

Irmgard said: “I had a wonderful time!”

Right from the beginning we try to get an understanding of our residents, finding out about their life story and getting to know the things they would really like to do via our Wishing Well Programme so that we can help to make their wishes a reality.

Ashbourne Court Care Home is located in Andover, Hampshire and provides dementia carenursing carepalliative careresidential care and respite care.
