Residents at Ivybank House Care Home have been reminiscing about holidays spent beside the seaside in their younger days and were joined by a very special guest, Dermot the donkey!
The Magic Moments Club team decided to brighten up a cold, dull winter’s day by bringing a spot of seaside sunshine into our home. As we gathered in the lounge and munched on candyfloss, we shared our memories of happy days spent feasting on sandwiches and flasks of tea on the beach with our families. Our residents remembered watching Punch and Judy shows on the pier, the price of deckchairs and the delicious fish and chip dinners. Many were regular visitors to Weston-super-Mare and Weymouth and everyone talked about the donkey rides on the beaches there so imagine our residents’ delight when the door opened and in trotted Dermot the Donkey!
We had arranged for Kelly’s Donkeys to visit our home to surprise our residents and Dermot proved to be a real hit. He was extremely friendly and gentle and was treated to lots of carrots and cuddles as he clip-clopped around the lounge to meet everyone.

Every brighterkind home now has a Magic Moments Club which provides a vast range of activities and fun things to do that are open to all of our residents.
The idea behind Magic Moments is that just because someone moves into a care home doesn't mean that the things they love doing should suddenly stop – quite the contrary, we believe our residents should have the opportunity to love every day, by doing the things that they have always loved as well as trying new things along the way.
