Residents at Scarborough Hall Care Home in North Yorkshire have commemorated the centenary of the end of World War I with a weekend of events both at their home and in the local community.
On 10th November a group of us attended an event held by the Hackness Village Community where a performance of life during The Great War was re-enacted, and in our home we welcomed singer Rebecca who performed classic wartime songs for us.
On Remembrance Day itself some of us attended the Military Memorial Service at Oliver’s Mount Memorial to pay our respects to those who fought for their country. Later in the day we all got together for afternoon tea and listened to poetry readings and a story about the men and women who sacrificed so much for our freedom, read by team member Leanne Walsh.
Leanne said “It was a poignant weekend for all of us and our residents were glad of the opportunity to join in with the events commemorating those who fought and lost their lives during the war.”
