Katie’s wish to monkey around at Emberbrook Care Home!

Resident Katie with one of the keepers at Monkey World

Emberbrook Care Home in Thames Ditton have made a Wishing Well wish come true for their resident Katie.

Katie is fascinated by monkeys and is an avid watcher of the weekly TV programme ‘Monkey Life’. She posted a wish in our home’s Wishing Well to go and visit the Monkey World Ape Rescue Centre in Dorset where the series is filmed and meet the keepers who work there.

Monkey World assists governments around the world to stop the smuggling of primates from the wild and the centre rehabilitates refugees of this illegal trade as well as those that have suffered abuse or neglect into natural living groups.

On 19th October Magic Moments Club Coordinator Agnes accompanied Katie and her friend Paul and another of our animal loving residents, Eva to the centre to meet the monkeys and the team that look after them so well.

Agnes said “We had a fantastic day at Monkey World and Katie loved seeing all the apes. She really enjoyed chatting to the lovely members of the centre’s team who take care of the monkeys and told her all about the great work they do.”

brighterkind runs their Wishing Well programme in all of its 70 care homes. Residents are encouraged to make a wish to experience something new or revisit an activity or place they’ve enjoyed in the past and our Magic Moments Club Team arrange for it to happen. Our Magic Moments Clubs provide a vast range of vibrant, stimulating activities that help our residents to love every day. Just because someone moves into a care home doesn't mean that the things they love doing should suddenly stop – quite the contrary, we believe our residents should have the opportunity to do the things that they have always loved as well as trying new things along the way.
