Relax, socialise, get involved
Each floor has a small living room but we also have a main living room and summer house where we come together as a Group as well as a TV lounge, with a 50-inch plasma, for people to enjoy at their leisure.
You can use these rooms to entertain your family and friends, spend time with other residents or take part in activities. If you’re looking for a bit of peace and tranquillity away from the company of others, we also have dedicated quiet spaces for you to enjoy.
Our living rooms provide the ideal spaces to hold many of our activities – and it’s always up to you if you want to get involved.
Colinton is a sociable place and lots of our residents have formed firm friendships during their time living here. Some of our residents visit each other in their rooms for tea and a chat. “There’s a lady in a wheelchair who lives on the top floor who regularly visits another lady on the ground floor,” says Home Manager Gordon Philp. “We make that happen for them every couple of days.”

How can residents spend private time with their relatives?
It’s really easy to find some quiet space to sit and chat with your relatives in private – whether in the communal living rooms, outside in the garden or in your own room. We’re always happy to move extra chairs into your room to accommodate guests if you’d like.
Are residents free to come and go around the home as they please?
Yes. This is their home and we hope they will treat it as such. Relatives are also welcome to come and go freely. Mealtimes are protected, but you’re welcome to come and have a meal with your relatives, as long as we know in advance.
