our home manager at Colinton

Meeting our Home Manager Gordon Philp

At brighterkind, we know that having a great Home Manager is vital to ensuring the home is well run and that everybody living and working there feels happy and cared for.

We asked Gordon, Home Manager at Colinton a little bit about himself and why he loves every day in his role.

What is your professional backgroud?

I was raised in Glenrothes in Fife and left school in 1986 where I went on to study leisure management. I worked for Glasgow City Council, Next Generation Health Clubs, Moray Leisure and finally Bannatyne's Health Clubs before settling on a career in the Care Industry. I now live in Dunfermline with my wife and 4 boys. I have a SVQ 4 in Health & Social Care and in Management & Leadership.

What one thing do you enjoy most about your job?

I love working with a great team of like minded people who all want to do their best for each other and our residents. We are all one big happy family and endeavour to give the highest standards of care possible to our residents every day. A happy home makes for happy residents.

What are your interests outside work?

I enjoy flying my drone (not near airports) and am a qualified drone pilot. I spend most of my spare time with my family. I love walking the dogs and enjoy nights out with family and friends.

What was a defining moment for you?

My dad was diagnosed with vascular dementia and Alzheimer's 10 years ago. I decided to look for a job in the care industry which would help me to understand his condition more.
