your room at Colinton

brighterkind Colinton Care Home in Edinburgh

Your room

We have 53 bedrooms which are all en-suite. They’re divided between our nursing and dementia care units – we think carefully about the unit that’s right for each resident. Our bedrooms are set across three floors and each floor has its own smaller living and dining rooms, meaning peace and quiet are never far away.

Everything you need

Our recent refurbishment means all our bedrooms are looking their very best. Each room has coordinated carpets, curtains, bedspread, and a feature wallpaper wall that looks fantastic. Your bedroom furniture consists of: an appropriate bed suitable to your needs, double wardrobe, three-drawer chest, bedside table with lockable drawer, over-bed table, desk, desk chair and armchair.

All our rooms are en-suite and there’s also a TV for enjoying your favourite programmes or watching a film in the privacy of your room.

Personalise your space

We understand that moving into Colinton can be a considerable transition, but one we try to make feel as easy as possible. Your room is your own personal space, which is why we encourage you to personalise your room if you like, by hanging your favourite pictures and decorating with ornaments and other personal possessions.  We have a handyman on site who can get those little jobs done without any fuss.

Will I have a choice of room?

Normally rooms are allocated to new residents based on what’s available, which might be a choice or rooms, but it could be only one. Different sized rooms can vary in cost.

What if my health or financial situation changes – will I have to move to another home or room?

No. You never need to move from Colinton or from your room. That room is your home for as long as you want it.

How do the dementia care and nursing care rooms differ?

We pride ourselves on the fact our dementia care unit looks no different from the rest of the home. The beautiful decor, brand new furnishings and fittings are for all our residents to enjoy. The only minor difference is that the furniture in our dementia care unit rooms is more washable and durable.

Is it possible to make cosmetic changes to the room?

Right now, it’s unlikely you’d want to – the newly refurbished rooms look great! But if it’s important to you, it’s important to us to, and we’ll do what we can to make the room as you want it.

Is it possible to bring a few pieces of furniture from home with me?

Our rooms have everything you need, but small items from home will help you settle in and we’re happy for you to bring them. Some of our residents have bookshelves or a bureau and many bring a favourite comfy chair with them when they move in.
