food and dining at Ivybank House Care Home

brighterkind Food and Dining

At Ivybank House, we love our food

We firmly believe that when you eat well, you live well too. This is a core part of our brighterkind philosophy of care, centering on good nutrition and the importance of mealtimes as a social occasion.

Our dining room is always set to restaurant standards, so residents need worry about nothing but enjoying the food.

Each day our chef prepares restaurant-style meals combining variety with a balanced diet and an emphasis on locally sourced ingredients. Our residents get involved in helping to plan our menus, too. And we can cater to any dietary or health requirements, however complex.

There is a large dining room on the ground floor – it’s a space that always becomes a hub of conversation and laughter, and which gives all our residents a chance to come together and socialise. Whether it’s tea and cakes in the garden or a special menu to celebrate an event like the World Cup, we encourage our residents to make the most of living in an active and friendly environment. We also go out for a pub lunch each week, which is always very popular.

Of course, when, where and who you eat with is entirely up to you. Friends and family can join you as often as you’d like (at a small charge), and our extras menu gives you the option to order snacks at any time of the day.

Special requirements

If you have any special dietary requirements or preferences, please let us know on arrival. We are happy to cater to your needs and wishes, however complex.

What are some of the residents’ favourite meals?

Our breakfasts are really popular here – there’s a wide menu, as you would expect at a hotel. Roast dinners are a real favourite too and our chicken, bacon and leek pie goes down well. A lot of the most popular dishes are quite traditional, but we throw in curries from time to time too. We always do homemade soup starters with freshly made bread rolls. People love Fridays when we either do a fish pie or fish and chips with our home-battered cod.

Are additional snacks available?

Yes. We have a snack box in the dining room stocked with savoury snacks, cakes, biscuits and fresh fruit. If you fancy a sandwich or something else, just let us know and we’ll inform the kitchen. We’ve got a few people that like certain snacks in the evening, so we make sure those are made and brought to their rooms when they want them.

Is alcohol served with meals?

We serve wine with our meals – you have a choice of red, white or rosé, both at lunch and at supper time. We do freshly brewed tea and coffee after both meals too.

What provisions are made for residents’ birthdays?

Residents’ birthdays are always marked if they want them to be. Occasionally people don’t want a fuss making because they would find that quite awkward, but everyone always has flowers, cards and a cake from Ivybank House. If someone would like to have a small family gathering they can use one of the communal rooms and we will put on a buffet.
